First visit
Your first visit, in order
About 60 minutes. Later visits are about 40.
We talk
Fully dressed, in a quiet room. We ask about your health, your sleep and your medicines, and what worries you about needles.
We feel
Your pulse at both wrists, your belly and the tender spots along your arms and legs. This often takes 15 minutes.
We show
Every tool, and the needle if you choose one. You hold it first.
We work
Rounded tools, and a few shallow needles if you say yes.
You rest
A few minutes alone in the room, with a bell if you want us.
We plan
How you feel, what to do over the next few days and when to come back.
Before you come
What to wear, eat and bring
Wear loose clothing that rolls up past the knee and elbow. We work through sleeves and over the clothes where we can, and we use a sheet when the skin needs to be uncovered.
Eat something light an hour or two beforehand, and bring a list of your medicines. Plan a quiet hour afterward.
Bring
Loose clothes
A light meal beforehand
A list of your medicines
Questions about needles

Tell us first
Tell your acupuncturist before the visit begins if any of these apply to you:
- You are pregnant or might be.
- You take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder.
- You have a pacemaker or another implant.
- You have had lymph nodes removed, on either side.
- You are afraid of needles. Say so when you book, and we will plan a tools-only first visit.
Nothing in this list stops you from coming. It changes what we do.
