Questions
Questions people ask first
Does it hurt?
Most people notice something small: a tap, a brief pinch, a dull ache or warmth. It varies by person and by point, and some people feel nothing. Tell us at any moment and we change what we are doing.
What if I am afraid of needles?
Tell us when you book. We plan a visit with tools only, show you the needle before any use, and never insert one unless you say yes. You can stop at any moment.
Are the needles clean?
Yes. They are sterile, single-use, opened in front of you and thrown away after the visit.
How many visits will I need?
We suggest a short run of visits close together, then fewer. It is a plan we make with you and change as you go. We never ask you to prepay.
Does insurance cover it?
We are out of network with most plans and do not bill your plan. We give you a receipt after each visit. See how fees work for the four questions to ask your plan.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Ask your plan administrator. Many cards work for acupuncture, and we give you a receipt.
What should I wear and eat?
Loose clothes that roll up past the knee and elbow, and something light to eat an hour or two beforehand.
Is it safe in pregnancy?
Tell us at booking if you are or might be pregnant. Some points are not used, and we ask you to check with your prenatal provider. The usual effects of a visit are a small bruise, an ache at a point or light-headedness.
Will I have to stop my medicine?
No. A visit with us does not change what your prescriber has told you to take. Tell your prescriber and us about everything you take.
What does acupuncture not do, and when should I see a doctor?
This does not replace your doctor or your medicines. Never stop or change a medicine on your own; talk to the person who prescribed it. Call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness or numbness, or the worst headache of your life. Tell us what your doctor has said, and we will work alongside it.
Still wondering?
Call us and ask. We would rather answer than have you guess.
